The Tokugawa Shoguns brought back the feudal system which was known as the Bakfu system. They did this to keep their powerful position on top and also to create strict orders and rules for the Daimyo. They set these rules in order to take control of all the residents as well as the land. The Daimyo were the nobles and the second most powerful leaders below the shoguns. Since they owned the land, they gained great wealth and power. The Daimyo also created a Samurai army to help protect their land and keep the residents there in control. The Shoguns had to take control over the Daimyo, otherwise they were concerned that the powerful Daimyo would take over power and take their place in the system.
